![]() Sauli Saarinen (b. 1988) is a Helsinki based musician who is working as an associate principal trumpet in the Guards Band (the official representative band of the Finnish Defence Forces). He also studies conducting in the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki.
As a trumpeter, Sauli has played both classical and jazz trumpet in various Finnish orchestras. Between 2012-2014 he worked as a principal trumpet in Vaasa City Orchestra and in Pori Sinfonietta. He is a lead trumpet in the Guards Combo, which is famous for its participation of the Presidential Independence Day Reception in Finland. Sauli is a board member of the Finnish Trumpet Guild in 2019. In May 2019 Sauli graduated as a Bachelor of Music from the Sibelius Academy´s conducting department with excellent grades. His first notable performance as a conductor took place in the same spring when he was working as an assistant conductor in the contemporary opera 'Flash Flash' (opera about Andy Warhol) by composer Juhani Nuorvala and librettist Juha Siltanen. Sauli conducted two out of five performances, including the premiere of the Espoo city theatre. During his studies in the Academy, Sauli has participated in many conducting masterclasses in which he has been taught by David Zinman, Osmo Vänskä, Jorma Panula, Hannu Lintu, Johannes Schlaefli, Leonid Korchmar, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Atso Almila, Nils Schweckendiek, Markus Lehtinen, Arturo Alvarado, Jukka Iisakkila, Petri Sakari and Paul Niemisto. His main teacher in the Academy is lector Petri Komulainen. Sauli made his debut as a composer in 2018, when he participated in overture composition contest held by the Finnish Defence Forces. His composition ’Concert Overture for Symphonic Band’ won the third prize in the finals, which were held at the Finlandia Hall, Helsinki. |
