About this Piece Jukka Viitasaari
The Golden City is the nickname of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. It’s one of my favorite cities, and I’ve been there 12 times so far. In September 2021, I was invited to the 75th anniversary concert of the Castle Guard & Czech Police Symphonic Band. It inspired me compose this march dedicated to Prague.
As always, I distribute solos democratically and to different sections. In my marches there is always a mandatory portion for low woodwinds and brass. I also make use Sibelian counterpoint (themes overlap, not in a row). A key change keeps the themes fresh. |
