Sis Boom Bah!is a piece for Grade 1 concert band that brings all the excitement and energy of the football stadium into the concert hall! The piece begins with a rhythm played by the snare drum, which is based on an old cheer heard in countless variations in stadiums everywhere around the mid 20th century. (“Boom! Get a rat trap bigger than a cat trap! Boom! Get another one bigger than the other one! Hannibal! Cannibal! Sis, boom, bah…”)
Many of the rhythms and melodies featured in this piece were sourced from students at Edgerton Middle School, who submitted their ideas at the time it was commissioned. Sis Boom Bah! is a great piece for teaching students about the Mixolydian scale, offbeat rhythms and accents, and is sure to be both a student and crowd favorite.
