About this Piece Daniel Gordon
Like the title suggests, Old McDonald Concerto is based on the folk song Old McDonald. Its solo part, playable by every instrument in a standard concert band, uses only the “first six” notes that beginning players learn. The accompaniment, playable by a middle-school band, includes simple extended techniques that imitate the animal sounds and also quotes pre-existing musical excerpts that are little musical puzzles for players and audiences to figure out.
