Flight was originally written for flute trio, but has now been adapted for flexible ensemble. The piece is meant to be played by advanced musicians. Flight depicts the idea of a butterfly flying through a field. At no point does it really land and when it does, it is only briefly. For this impression to be successful, the piece is written in ¾ and 6/8 (with a dash of 4/4). The meter is meant to not feel present so as to make the listener a bit uncomfortable, yet excited to see where the final landing point will be. Therefore, no part is really ever in the same meter.
